Introduction to Types of Airsoft Guns

Airsoft is a game rapidly increasing in popularity in many countries across the world. The game uses airsoft guns, which are replicas of real guns, in this game. They use plastic pellets as ammunition instead of the regular bullets. If you are unfamiliar with this game but are curious to learn more, it is essential that you have an idea about these gadgets before you jump into buying one. Depending on their mechanism, these guns fall into three broad categories.

Electric airsoft gun

Electric airsoft guns are perhaps most popular among many enthusiasts. These guns have contributed in a large way to the explosive growth of this sport throughout the world. They come with an electric motor with a battery inside to power it. There are gears inside the gun which are turned by the motor, provoking the compress and release of the piston. This results in propulsion of the plastic pellets through the gun barrel. These fully automated guns have a rapid fire feature, giving them an added appeal. The price range of electric airsoft guns varies, from plastic made ones at around $10-20, going up to steel guns of a few hundred dollars.

Gas airsoft gun

Another method of operating this is by way of compressed gas. The gas type use gas filled cylinders or inbuilt magazines with liquidated gas. Upon pressing the trigger, the liquid is released, which evaporates into gas and builds pressure, propelling the pellets at high speed out of the barrel. These guns, however, cannot be used in cold weather conditions since the drop in temperature can affect the gun's performance. These are the most expensive of the family, at several hundred dollars and are largely the domain of enthusiasts.

Spring airsoft gun

Spring guns or 'springers', as they are commonly known, are the last of the general types of airsoft guns. In fact, the earliest types used the spring mechanism to operate. As the name suggests, a spring is used to propel the pellets. The spring is activated with a backward cock action which sets the spring ready. This has to be repeated for each shot, making rapid fire impossible. The simplicity of their design is what makes them popular among enthusiasts and they are also the most inexpensive of the family. These guns can be owned for as little as $20-25. The enthusiasts can check this type of gun and have fun.
